Men’s Morning Fellowship Makes Gift to GHS Educational Trust

The Men’s Morning Fellowship Group recently donated $500 to the Glasgow High School Educational Trust. This interdenominational men’s group meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 A. M. for breakfast, fellowship, and devotions at either the Methodist Church or the Congregational Church. Men from each congregation take turns preparing the breakfast.

Initiated over 25 years ago by the late Dr. David Hide, the Men’s Morning Fellowship Group had a strong following for many years before it eventually disbanded. It was reactivated approximately two years ago under the leadership of Charlie Plant and others. All men are welcome and may call Ron Kalpalka (545-9187) or Rick Thompson (228-8088) for more information. There will not be a meeting this month due to Christmas.

Although there is no charge for the breakfast, a free will offering is collected, and at the end of each year the group makes a donation to a worthy local cause. Its gift to the Glasgow High School Educational Trust was made in support of the trusts mission to provide financial assistance to GHS alumni pursuing higher education and to purchase enrichment programs and equipment for Glasgow High School that benefit the entire student body and the public at large when it attends events at the school.

Established by the GHS Class of 1938 in 1964, the Glasgow High School Educational Trust has awarded over $1.5 million dollars to hundreds of different GHS alumni for college or vocational/technical school expenses. Many of those students have received several gifts over their courses of study. The trust has also made gifts to GHS valued at $180, 327.53.

All donations to the trust are invested, and the interest earned awarded through a semi-annual application process administered by the trustees. Gifts of cash, real estate, and stock from faithful supporters across the nation have built the corpus of the trust to over $3.8 million dollars.

Whenever the trust receives donations totaling $500 in the name of a particular individual or group, a gift is made to a student or the school in memory, honor, or recognition of that individual or group. Donations of $10,000 or more entitle the donor to an annual naming opportunity in perpetuity. The gift in recognition of the Men’s Morning Fellowship Group will be awarded at the July 2014 meeting.

At its annual November 2013 meeting the trust made the following gifts to eight students. These gifts are for the spring 2014 semester only and are in addition to the gifts made to 31 other students in July 2013 for both semesters of the 2013-2014 school year.
